Long season

I been watching baseball since 76 and I have seen my share of bad play but what I have seen lately from the Yankees has been atrocious. They are playing no energy baseball and it all comes from the way this team is managed Girardi makes me question his moves all the time, he leaves pitchers in to long when they have nothing ,he doesn't no how to use his players to get the most out of them.I think the Yankees are going to have a long year and I think the Yankees made a huge mistake giving him the new contract. They should give Posada a minor league managerial position and groom him to be the next skipper. Posada will get them to play with energy I think he would make a great manager someday.

Yankees pitching

Yankees starting pitching has been pretty impressive as of late.Bartolo Colon has been a big surprise this year pitching like the Colon of the past.Freddy Garcia has been solid so far and Nova has been a serviceable starter.   A.J. has looked alright and C.C. has had some bad luck but has pitched like he always does.I think they will be alright with this starting rotation and hopefully Phil Hughes will come back and be productive. The bullpen will come around as long as Soriano gets his control strait. I think another lefty will be necessary as I think Logan is to up and down to be relied on for important spots in the post season.Joba looks good early on and his velocity is back. Now if they can start to score with out the long ball they'll be hard to beat.

Baseball is finally here

To me this is the best time of the year, pitchers and catchers report and spring training baseball  is about to get under way.The weather is getting better everyday and cant wait for opening day to get here. The off season was so long but at least NY had some buzz with the Jets, Knicks, and Rangers all doing well. But to me there is nothing like baseball  the whole its a marathon not a sprint thing is what I love about it.I love the way a baseball season has so many ups and downs and you could catch a game every night unlike the other sports.I just cant wait!

Andy Pettitte is calling it a career

The beginning of the end of an era today. Andy Pettitte has chosen retirement after 16 seasons in the Major Leagues, 13 of them for the Yankees, with whom he won five World Series championships. His 240 career wins are the 13th-most by a left-hander in Major League history. Pettitte won five World Series titles with the Yankees and appeared in three other Fall Classics. In postseason play, he is tied for second in strikeouts (173) with Roger Clemens, 26 behind John Smoltz. His 203 Yankees victories put him third in franchise history, behind Hall of Famers Whitey Ford (236) and Red Ruffing (231), and his 1,823 strikeouts are second to Ford in team history. He ranks 16th all-time for strikeouts by a left-hander with 2,251. He broke into the Major Leagues with the Yankees in 1995, the same year as teammates Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. They, along with Jorge Posada, who played in one game in 1995 but joined them for good in 1997, became known as the "Core Four" of the team's most recent dynasty that included four championships in five years."It's been a pleasure to play with Andy for all these years, and the Yankees have been fortunate to have him representing the organization both on and off the field," Jeter said in a statement.
"More importantly it's been an honor to get to know him as a person, and I consider him family. I wish for nothing but happiness for him and his family, as I know how important they are to him."
Added Posada: "I'm really sad that Andy is going to retire. He was so much more than a teammate to me - he was one of my closest friends. I admire everything that he has accomplished as a Yankee, but Andy was someone who always put the team first. I'm going to miss him deeply."So today marks the beginning of the end of what is known as the core four. A truly sad day in Yankee universe.

Yankees make trade with Nats

The Yankees acquired outfielder Justin Maxwell from the Nats for right-hander Adam Olbrychowski.Maxwell played in 67 games for Washington last season batting .144 with three home runs and 12 RBIs.He also batted .287 with six home runs and 21 RBIs in 66 games for Triple-A Syracuse. Maxwell had Tommy John surgery on his left (non-throwing) elbow in October after attempting a diving catch in the second-to-last game of the season against the Mets. He believes the surgery will not present an issue this spring. Maxwell was designated for assignment by the Nationals on Thursday. He has a career batting average of .201, with nine home runs and 26 RBIs in 122 Major League games over parts of three seasons. The Yankees already have Colin Curtis and Greg Golson, both of them were decent fill in types last year.I personally think the Yankees didn't  need another back up outfielder but maybe they will catch lightning in a bottle. What sez you love to hear.
